Hacking / Analysis of 'places.sqlite' to reconstruct a Firefox-Surf-History

Fun with internet banking

„Intro (by Jordan) :: At the begining of March, some TV journalist from the German HR (Hessen Broadcast) rang me up in my office. He got the telephone number from an FH professor who knows some of my work. So I became interested in his story. He sang the never ending song of German internet banking.

In short, some banks believe (or rather claim to believe) that they did everything possible to make banking as easy and as secure as possible. And this is seen differently from the folks supporting customer groups which point out, that internet banking has never been as insecure as currently. And the TV guy belonged to that folks.

He asked me whether I could tell him some technical facts and demonstrate, that his suspicion is just right. This was going to be fun. So I discussed this issue with some friends from the local computer club here in Frankfurt. And we decided to show something..“

Fun with internet banking - side aspects

„Intro (by Tom) :: As the security gap is clearly visible, compromising a Windows system will be just a matter of patience, creativity and skill.

Not giving you a complete toolbox at your hands, we will rather show some of the technical problems we encountered, and how we delt with the challenge. Every programmer with the attributes mentioned above should be able to meet this challenge in one, or the other way…“

Infrastructure project: Running a GoogleSharing proxy server

The Basic Problem - Google thrives where privacy does not. If you're like the most Internet citizens, Google knows more about you through your search requests than you might be comfortable with.

GoogleSharing.net provides a system that mixes the requests of many different users together, such that Google is not capable of telling what is coming from whom. The GoogleSharing proxy in combination with the GoogleSharing Firefox Addon aims to do a few very specific things for you

  1. Provide a system that will prevent Google from collecting information about you from services which don't require a login.
  2. Make this system completely transparent to the user. No special websites, no change to your work flow.
  3. Leave your non-Google traffic completely untouched, unredirected, and unaffected.

It works, just like that:

We want to encourage you to do the same and provide our own GoogleSharing proxy server to friends and foes, of course. Enjoy yourself and have a even deeper look at:
